Establishing the type of care needed

Establishing the type of care needed ~ Medical or Non-Medical

For those attempting to navigate the world of in-home care we hope to make it less confusing for you.

Home care is a form of care provided where a patient lives. They can receive home care services whether they live in their own homes, with or without family members, or in an assisted living facility.

The purpose of home care is provided to allow the client to remain in familiar surroundings where most would prefer to remain. To have someone there caring for their needs and to promote, maintain, or restore their health and wellbeing.

Home Care is also what is needed in certain short term situations, such as assisting new parents when baby comes home or a loved one returning home after surgery.

The people who benefit most from a Home Care caregiver are those who, while physically or mentally limited by age or disability, are not acutely ill and therefore do not need a medical practitioner such as a Home Health Aide, Certified Nurse Aide, RN or LPN.

So the first thing is to determine which type of care is needed ~ Medical or Non-Medical

Medical - skilled nursing (intravenous injections, tube feeding, oxygen to help breathing, and changing sterile dressings on a wound) physical and occupational therapy, social work, and home health aide, under professional supervision.

Non-Medical - supportive custodial care, services range from housekeeping and companionship to assistance and supervision with bathing, dressing, grooming and meal preparation.
